It’s my last first day of school! It is pretty surreal how fast my college experience went by, but I know I wouldn’t want to start my last year anywhere else. I am also very grateful that I am going back to in-person classes after taking virtual courses for the past 1.5 years.

Courses are structured quite differently in Denmark and Europe as a whole, in comparison to the United States. This semester I’m taking 4 courses, 1 of them being a Q1 course, which means it is an accelerated course that will end in mid-October. The other 3 courses will be semester-long ending in December. Lecture styles are typically longer, averaging to about 3-hour long lectures that occur once or twice a week. Even though all of my grades are dependent on each respective final exam, it is very important to come to class prepared by reading the textbook and materials that the professor posts online in advance. Instead of actual assignments due throughout the semester, the majority of the schoolwork I do outside of class is taking notes from textbooks, watching assigned videos, and reading other recommended materials. The CBS campus is spread out across 5 buildings but is all relatively close to my dorm (only a maximum 10-minute bike ride). Not to mention, the buildings are absolutely beautiful with their unique architecture. Coffee and croissants were also provided in each classroom during the first couple of weeks of school to celebrate going back in person since the pandemic!
With my friends and I’s spread-out class schedule this week, we were able to coordinate our first trip and take a day trip to Malmö, Sweden! Malmö is a coastal city in Southern Sweden, only about an hour bus ride away from Copenhagen. All the destinations we went to were easy to get to by walking or a quick rental scooter ride. Although there aren’t as many things to do as in Copenhagen, it was the perfect day trip to a more charming city, and we really enjoyed walking around the canals, local shops, and beautiful buildings.
Alyssa and I had our first visitor in Copenhagen! Our UH friend, Lara, was able to stay with us in our dorm for 5 days. It was so much fun showing her around while also exploring new places within the city. Highlights included renting a GoBoat around the canals, checking out a trendy street food venue named Reffen (dozens of old shipping containers were transformed into food vendors!), and showing her many hosted events
to kick off the new semester.
